Jan Witold Suliga urodził się w 1951 roku w Krakowie. Studiował etnografię
i indologię na Uniwersytecie Łódzkim i Uniwersytecie Warszawskim.
W latach osiemdziesiątych był stypendystą stacjonarnych studiów
doktoranckich w Łodzi, a potem na uniwersytecie w Ranchi w Indiach. Po
powrocie z Indii został wykładowcą w Instytucie Geografii Uniwersytetu
Łódzkiego. W 1990 roku uzyskał tytuł doktora nauk humanistycznych
w zakresie antropologii kulturowej, pisząc pracę na temat indyjskich
społeczności plemiennych. W latach 19902006 pełnił funkcję dyrektora
Państwowego Muzeum Etnograficznego w Warszawie. Jest autorem wielu
artykułów i książek z zakresu etnografii, antropologii kulturowej i ezoteryki.
Zainteresowania naukowe i ezoteryczne Jana Witolda Suligi obejmowały
antropologię kulturową i stosowaną, archeologię, religioznawstwo
i geografię religii, mistykę, kabałę, tantrę, szamanizm, magię, mitologię
i symbolikę mitów, historię okultyzmu i systemów ezoterycznych.
